Carbon Reduction Plan

Company name: STARMEDI HEALTHCARE SERVICES LTD LTD

Publication date: August 2024.

Commitment to achieving Net Zero

STARMEDI HEALTHCARE SERVICES LTD LTD is firmly committed to reducing our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions over time and to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050.

Baseline Emissions Footprint

Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and were produced prior to the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions. These emissions serve as the reference point against which we measure our progress.

Baseline Year: 2023

Additional Details relating to the Baseline Emissions calculations.

This is our first formal assessment of emissions; therefore, the 2023 reporting period serves as our baseline year. Our baseline emissions have been calculated in accordance with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol Corporate Standard, which aligns with UK Government reporting guidelines.

Emissions reduction targets

These targets are designed to ensure continuous improvement without overwhelming our resources.

We aim to reduce our total carbon emissions by 15% over the next five years, reaching 510 tCO2e by 2029.

To achieve this target, we will focus on practical initiatives that deliver significant impact with minimal disruption:

  • Scope 1 (Direct Emissions): Gradually transition our vehicle fleet to more fuel-efficient models, including hybrid vehicles, by replacing older vehicles during regular fleet updates.

Encourage the use of electric vehicles (EVs) within our fleet and install EV charging stations at our facilities.

  • Scope 2 (Indirect Emissions from Energy): Implement energy-saving measures in our offices, such as installing smart thermostats and energy-efficient appliances, and ensuring that all lights are turned off when not in use.

Install solar panels on office buildings to generate renewable energy on-site, reducing reliance on fossil fuels.

  • Scope 3 (Other Indirect Emissions): Reduce emissions from business travel by encouraging the use of virtual meetings where possible and offering flexible working arrangements to reduce commuting.Implement a zero-waste-to-landfill policy and promote paperless operations by transitioning to digital documentation.

Progress against these targets can be seen in the graph below:

Pathway to Net Zero emissions from 2023 to 2050, based on the plan to reduce emissions by 15% by 2029, 40-50% by 2040, and 30-40% by 2050 shown in graph below:

Carbon Reduction Projects

Completed Carbon Reduction Initiatives

The following environmental management measures and projects have been completed or implemented since the 2023 baseline. The carbon emission reduction achieved by these schemes equates to 30 tCO2e, a 5% reduction against the 2023 baseline, and the measures will be in effect when performing the contract: Since establishing our baseline in 2023, we have implemented the following initiatives to reduce our carbon footprint:

  • Energy Efficiency: Replaced all incandescent bulbs in our offices with LED lighting, which reduced electricity consumption by 10%, equivalent to a reduction of 20 tCO2e.

  • Office Policy Adjustments: Implemented a policy to ensure that all electronic devices are powered down at the end of each workday, leading to a reduction in energy use and emissions by 10 tCO2e.

  • Vehicle Policy: Started a phased replacement of older vehicles with newer, more fuel-efficient models, reducing our vehicle emissions by 10 tCO2e.

Future Carbon Reduction Initiatives

To continue our progress towards our emissions reduction goals, we plan to implement the following manageable projects:

  • Encourage Remote Work: Expand our remote work policy to reduce the need for commuting, which is expected to cut down on Scope 3 emissions by 15 tCO2e over the next five years.

  • Smart Energy Use: Install smart meters in our office to monitor and optimise energy consumption, aiming to reduce our Scope 2 emissions by an additional 15 tCO2e by 2026.

  • Green Procurement: Begin sourcing office supplies from local, eco-friendly vendors to reduce the carbon footprint associated with the supply chain, targeting a 5 tCO2e reduction.

  • Sustainable Transportation: Promote carpooling among employees and encourage the use of public transportation.

  • Supplier Engagement: Set carbon reduction targets for suppliers and conduct regular audits to ensure compliance.
